Resolution

WHEREAS, Lewis County last revised the Sheriff's Office Fee Schedule via Resolution 17-373 on December 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office has updated the Fee Schedule to keep up with the cost of inflation and help recoup some of the costs associated with civil processes; and

WHEREAS, the revised Fee Schedule also adopts the countywide mileage rate established by the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC); and

WHEREAS, the BOCC routinely updates the mileage reimbursement rate for privately-owned vehicles used for transportation in the conduct of county business, typically tying the county's rate to the rate set by the Internal Revenue Service; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC's most recent update to the county's mileage rate took place January 7, 2025, at which time the BOCC set the mileage rate at 70 cents per mile via Resolution 25-012; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC has reviewed the Sheriff's Office Fee Schedule and finds it to be in the best public interest to authorize the Fee Schedule and to set the Sheriff's Office mileage rate at the same mileage rate the BOCC sets for other privately-owned vehicles used for transportation in the conduct of county business.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby (1) approves the Sheriff's Office Fee Schedule, with an effective date of Feb. 10, 2025; and (2) sets the Sheriff's Office mileage rate at the same mileage rate the BOCC sets for other privately-owned vehicles used for transportation in the conduct of county business effective Jan. 1, 2025; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any future changes the BOCC makes to the county's mileage rate via resolution also shall be made to the mileage rate for the Sheriff's Office.
