APPROVE AGREEMENT TO ACCEPT FUNDING FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FOR A PROJECT RELATED TO THE CONTROL OF PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE
WHEREAS, it is Lewis County Noxious Weed Control's mission -- and in the best public interest -- to control noxious weeds before they spread to adjacent areas, and early detection and rapid response to new noxious weed species gaining a foothold in an area is essential to curtailing that spread; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) believes it is in the best interest of the state's agriculture to curtail purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) before it establishes further, and the WSDA wishes to assist local government agencies, such as Lewis County Noxious Weed Control, in doing so; and
WHEREAS, the WSDA has offered to provide $3,354.00 to the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control for educational materials, early-season survey efforts and supplies for the control of purple loosestrife; and
WHEREAS, no corresponding match is required on the part of Lewis County or the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Board.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) hereby approves of the terms and conditions of the attached contract -- contract No. K4398 for funding totaling $3,354.00 -- between Lewis County Noxious Weed Control and the State of Washington Department of Agriculture; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the BOCC authorizes the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Program Coordinator to sign the same on behalf of the agency.
