Resolution
APPOINT BRIAN MERRYMAN AS AN ALTERNATE ON THE LEWIS COUNTY WATER CONSERVANCY BOARD
WHEREAS, the state Legislature in 1997 authorized counties to establish water conservancy boards (RCW 90.80) to enable the processing of water-right transfer applications at the local level with members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC); and
WHEREAS, Tom Crowson has stepped down from the Water Conservancy Board, creating a vacancy; and
WHEREAS, Brian Merryman of Winlock has expressed a desire to be appointed as an Alternate on the Water Conservancy Board and has demonstrated he has the necessary experience and education to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a Water Conservancy Board member; and
WHEREAS, Brian Merryman's work as a professional forest manager and "Stormwater Erosion Control Lead," coupled with his years of experience, make him an ideal candidate for the Lewis County Water Conservancy Board; and
WHEREAS, RCW 90.80.050(2) states that "in making appointments to the board, the county legislative authority or authorities shall choose from among persons who are residents of the county or counties or a county that is contiguous to the county that the water conservancy board is to serve"; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best public interest to appoint qualified members to the Water Conservancy Board.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby appoints Brian Merryman as an Alternate on the Lewis County Water Conservancy Board to complete Tom Crowson's unexpired six-year term ending August 1, 2023.
DONE IN OPEN SESSION this 11th day of January, 2021.
