Resolution
AUTHORIZE THE SHERIFF, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE A PURCHASE ORDER WITH AXON ENTERPRISE INC. THROUGH SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT FOR THE PURCHASE OF 35 TASER 10 CONDUCTED ENERGY WEAPONS
WHEREAS, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office seeks to purchase 35 (thirty-five) TASER 10 conducted energy weapons; and
WHEREAS, Axon is the manufacturer of the TASER 10 system, and the Sheriff’s Office is not aware of another authorized source that provides this specific system; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office has been using TASER products since 2002 and has in-house instructors certified on the TASER 10 platform; and
WHEREAS, the existing TASER X26P devices have been in service for many years and have reached the end of their useful service life; and
WHEREAS, the TASER X26P devices have experienced multiple equipment failures and the devices are no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty; and
WHEREAS, maintaining the existing TASESR X26P units has become increasingly difficult due to their age; and
WHEREAS, the TASER 10 system provides up to 10 probes compared to TASER X26P single cartridge system, giving deputies the ability to make subsequent deployments, when appropriate, without requiring a reload, and the system provides deputies with an additional less-lethal option when attempting to safely gain control of a subject; and
WHEREAS, the TASER 10 system has a usable range of almost double that of the TASER X26P system, giving deputies additional deployment options during an incident; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office plans to transition any remaining functional X26P devices to our corrections deputies to provide them with additional less-lethal options while allowing the County to continue receiving value from equipment that remains serviceable; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office has anticipated the need to replace our aging patrol TASER equipment and has intentionally tailored current budget expenditures to meet this need; and
WHEREAS, the purchase can therefore be completed using funds already included in the current budget, without requiring an additional appropriation; and
WHEREAS, this purchase will allow the Sheriff’s Office to modernize its primary patrol TASER system, improve available less-lethal capabilities, provide additional equipment to the Corrections Bureau employees, and make use of existing budgeted funds that were specifically planned for this anticipated replacement.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners authorizes the elected Sheriff of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, or their designee, to execute a purchase order with Axon Enterprise Inc. using the sole source procurement method in an amount not to exceed $216,659.94, including tax, for the purchase of 35 (thirty-five) TASER 10 conducted energy weapons.
DONE IN OPEN SESSION this 20th day of October, 2026.
