Summary:

The Veterans’ Advisory Board was established by Resolution No. 06-189, and its bylaws were most recently amended by Resolution No. 26-198. The Lewis County Veterans’ Advisory Board bylaws establish the composition and appointment requirements for membership on the Board.

The purpose of this resolution is to approve membership changes to the Lewis County Veterans’ Advisory Board, including the reappointment of Anthony Rogers as a regular member, the appointment of Jeremy Schlake as a regular member, acknowledgment of the resignation of Candance Johnson, and the appointment of Gregory Shadko as a new alternate member.

Resolution

WHEREAS, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) established the Veterans’ Advisory Board (VAB) via Resolution No. 06-189 and most recently amended its bylaws via Resolution No. 26-198; and

WHEREAS, the VAB bylaws establish the composition and appointment requirements for membership on the Board and provide that members must be approved by the BOCC and appointed by resolution; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Rogers moved into a regular member position following the departure of another regular member, and although that change in membership status was not formally ratified by the BOCC, his service and participation as a regular member are reflected in the official meeting minutes and records of the VAB; and

WHEREAS, the VAB recommends that the BOCC formally ratify the appointment and service of Anthony Rogers as a regular member of the VAB, effective March 1, 2026, and reappoint him through February 29, 2028; and

WHEREAS, Candance Johnson resigned from her position on the VAB effective August 2026, creating a vacancy in a regular member position; and

WHEREAS, the VAB recommends the appointment of Jeremy Schlake to fill the vacant regular member position, effective Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2029; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Shadko has submitted an application to serve on the VAB as an alternate member, and the VAB recommends his appointment for a term beginning Sept. 1, 2026, and ending Aug. 31, 2029; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC finds that ratifying and reappointing Anthony Rogers and appointing Jeremy Schlake and Gregory Shadko supports the continued work and membership needs of the VAB and is in the best interest of the public.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby acknowledges the resignation of Candance Johnson from her position on the Veterans’ Advisory Board (VAB) and appoints two regular members and one alternate as follows:
