Resolution

WHEREAS, as allowed per RCW 72.09.300, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners established a Law and Justice Council via Ordinance 1200 (June 16, 2008) and updated it via Ordinances 1282 (November 13, 2017), 1335 (August 2, 2022) and 1381 (July 7, 2026), with the most recent ordinance expanding the group's membership from 24 to 26 to include representation from the county's local fire-fighting profession; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC appointed 24 individuals to the Law and Justice Council via Resolution 26-131 on April 21, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Section 9.20.030(20), added in July 2026, expanded membership to include “Two representatives from local fire departments as selected by the fire chiefs in Lewis County, provided that one of the representatives shall be from either the city of Centralia or Chehalis”; and

WHEREAS, as required per County Code, the BOCC requested Lewis County fire chiefs select two representatives, including one who represents either the city of Centralia or Chehalis; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC supports the fire chiefs' recommendation to appoint the following two individuals to the Law and Justice Council:

• Riverside Fire Authority (Centralia) Fire Chief Kevin Anderson
• Onalaska Fire Chief Brad Flexhaug

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the BOCC hereby appoints the following (or their designees) to serve as voting members on the Lewis County Law and Justice Council for terms ending Dec. 31, 2030:

• Riverside Fire Authority (Centralia) Fire Chief Kevin Anderson
• Onalaska Fire Chief Brad Flexhaug
