HALT THE FREE DISPOSAL OF FLOOD-DAMAGED DEBRIS RESULTING FROM THE DECEMBER 2025 FLOOD EVENT
WHEREAS, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) passed Resolution 25-362 on December 11, 2025, to allow for the free disposal of flood-damaged debris resulting from the December 2025 flood event; and
WHEREAS, Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and Lewis County Emergency Management developed procedures by which affected citizens could obtain and redeem vouchers for the free disposal of flood-damaged debris; and Resolution 25-362 authorized the free disposal of flood debris to take place at the designated temporary collection site, the Central Transfer Station in Centralia and the East Lewis County Transfer Station in Morton effective December 13, 2025, through 5 p.m. February 27, 2026, in accordance with rules approved by the Disposal District Commissioners and the BOCC; and
WHEREAS, in response to changing conditions, the BOCC has determined it is in the public's best interest to end the free debris-disposal program earlier than originally planned.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, effective immediately, the BOCC hereby halts the program that allowed for the free disposal of flood-damaged debris resulting from the December 2025 flood; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the lone remaining waiver that was issued but has not yet been redeemed shall be honored.
DONE IN OPEN SESSION this 27th day of January, 2026.
