Summary:

The Veterans’ Advisory Board was established by Resolution #06-189 and updated via Resolution #12-143. The Lewis County Veterans' Advisory Board bylaws state that membership on the board shall be comprised of no less than seven regular-members and two alternate-members.

The Veterans' Advisory Board recommends (1) appointing Jerry Villarreal as a regular-member, (2) removing Tina Koehn and Tabitha Hopp as alternate-members, and (3) removing George Dodd as a regular-member of the Veterans' Advisory Board. The service dates of the recommended appointment are January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.

Resolution

WHEREAS, Lewis County has a Veterans’ Advisory Board (VAB) as established by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) via Resolution 06-189 and updated via Resolution 12-143; and

WHEREAS, the VAB's bylaws state that membership on the board shall be comprised of no less than seven regular-members and two alternate-members, with each board member approved by the BOCC and appointed via resolution; and

WHEREAS, the BOCC has reviewed memos from the VAB recommending that the BOCC appoint one new member to and remove three members from the VAB; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Villarreal has expressed interest and submitted an application to serve on the VAB; and

WHEREAS, the VAB recommends the BOCC (1) appoint Jerry Villarreal as a regular member, (2) remove Tina Koehn and Tabitha Hopp as alternate-members, and (3) remove George Dodd as a regular-member of the VAB; and

WHEREAS, the service dates of the recommended appointment are January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026; and

WHEREAS, this will ensure the minimum requirements for regular-members are met, and will leave two alternate-member positions vacant; and

WHEREAS, it appears to be in the best public interest to (1) appoint Jerry Villarreal to the VAB and (2) remove Tina Koehn, Tabitha Hopp and George Dodd as voting members of the VAB.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby (1) appoints Jerry Villarreal as a regular member and (2) removes Tina Koehn, Tabitha Hopp and George Dodd as voting members of the Veterans' Advisory Board effective January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.
