Accept a grant from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, an office of the Department of Justice for FY23 COPS Technology and Equipment Program (Congressionally Directed Spending), Award number 15JCOPS-23-GG-03999-TECP in the amount of $2,800,000 to develop and acquire effective equipment, technologies, and interoperable communications.

Resolution

WHEREAS, Lewis County VHF radio infrastructure requires upgrades and replacement of outdated equipment to support the functions of law enforcement and first responder interoperable communications; and

WHEREAS, Lewis County worked with Representative Herrara Beutler in 2022 to secure Congressional funding for upgrades to the VHF radio infrastructure providing for improved equipment, technology, and interoperable communications between law enforcement and first responders within Lewis County to assist in responding to and preventing crime; and

WHEREAS, the Congressional funding was approved in December 2022 as part of the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Technology and Equipment Program, and Lewis County was approved for $2,800,000; and

WHEREAS, Lewis County received notification of the federal award on September 26, 2023, for the project period of December 31, 2022 through December 31, 2024.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) authorizes the acceptance of the FY23 COPS Technology and Equipment Program grant in the amount of $2,800,000 and approves the County Manager and Chief Accountant to sign the attached award package on behalf of the County..
