Summary:

The Veterans’ Advisory Board was established by Resolution #06-189. The Lewis County Veterans' Advisory Board bylaws state that membership on the board shall be comprised of no less than seven regular members and two alternate members.

With two regular vacant positions and two alternate vacant positions, it is proposed to appoint Edward Smith and William Cavinder as new regular voting members of the Veterans’ Advisory Board (VAB) through August 31, 2025.

Resolution

WHEREAS, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has reviewed the memo listing a recommendation from the Veterans' Advisory Board (VAB) to appoint two new regular members; and

WHEREAS, Resolution #06-189 established the Lewis County VAB, and the bylaws state that membership on the board shall be comprised of no less than seven regular members and two alternate members; and

WHEREAS, there are two regular vacant positions and two alternate vacant positions open following one regular member's recent departure from the board; and

WHEREAS, Edward Smith and William Cavinder have expressed interest and submitted applications to serve on the VAB as new regular voting members; and

WHEREAS, with two regular positions and two alternate positions vacant, the VAB recommends the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) appoints Edward Smith and William Cavinder as regular voting members of the Veterans’ Advisory Board (VAB) effective September 1, 2023, through August 31, 2025; and

WHEREAS, this will leave no regular vacant positions and two alternate vacant positions to be filled after further recruiting; and

WHEREAS, it appears to be in the best public interest to appoint Edward Smith and William Cavinder to the VAB.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby appoints Edward Smith and William Cavinder as regular members of the Veterans’ Advisory Board effective September 1, 2023, through August 31, 2025.
