Summary:

This agreement is between Lewis County and Lewis County Veterans Memorial Museum to fund the Veterans Service Officer position. The program will provide assistance to Lewis County Veterans and their families to prepare and develop claims submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veteran Service Officer services will be provided county wide at three different locations. There will be a calendar with dates, times, and locations of where services will be provided.

The Veterans Service Officer will be assisting Veterans and their families in securing benefits from federal and state agencies by preparing and submitting claims. To include informing Veterans and their families of possible pension, compensation, educational, vocational rehabilitation and other rights and benefits.

Resolution

WHEREAS, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has reviewed Contract #V02-0195-23 between the Veterans Memorial Museum and Lewis County; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of this agreement is to provide funding for a Veterans Service Officer position that will assist Lewis County Veterans and their families to prepare and develop claims submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

WHEREAS, the Veterans Service Officer will also inform Veterans and their families of possible pension, compensation, educational, vocational rehabilitation and other rights and benefits; and

WHEREAS, the contract duration is June 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the total maximum consideration for this contract is $66,880; and

WHEREAS, it appears to be in the best public interest to authorize the execution of said contract.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby approves Contract #V02-0195-23 to provide funding up to $66,880 for the purpose of funding the Veteran Service Officer position to support eligible Veterans and their families in Lewis County and authorizes the Director of Public Health & Social Services to sign the same.
