Resolution
ESTABLISH THE MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT RATE FOR PRIVATELY-OWNED VEHICLES USED FOR THE GUARDIAN AD-LITEM PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Lewis County enlists the services of Guardians ad Litem; and
WHEREAS, Guardians ad Litem routinely are required to use their own vehicles during the course of providing services to children in Lewis County; and
WHEREAS, the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on Oct. 5, 2009, passed Resolution 09-341, establishing a mileage reimbursement rate of 35 cents per mile for Guardians ad Litem; and
WHEREAS, the BOCC routinely updates the mileage reimbursement rate for privately-owned vehicles used for transportation in the conduct of county business, typically tying the county's rate to the rate set by the Internal Revenue Service; and
WHEREAS, the BOCC's most recent update to the county's mileage rate took place June 21, 2022, at which time the BOCC set the mileage rate at 62.5 cents per mile via Resolution 22-185; and
WHEREAS, it appears to be reasonable to tie the mileage rate for Guardians ad Litem to the rate paid to regular county employees who use privately-owned vehicles in the conduct of county business.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the BOCC hereby rescinds Resolution #09-341 effective Jan. 1, 2023, and hereby sets the mileage rate for the Guardian ad-Litem program at the same mileage rate the BOCC sets for other privately-owned vehicles used for transportation in the conduct of county business; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any future changes the BOCC makes to the county's mileage rate via resolution rate shall also be made to the mileage rate for the Guardian ad-Litem program.
DONE IN OPEN SESSION this 27th day of December, 2022.
