Wording/In the matter of:

RESTRICT OUTDOOR BURNING THROUGHOUT UNINCORPORATED LEWIS COUNTY

Resolution Number: 22-220

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) concurs with the decision of the Lewis County Community Development Director and the County Fire Marshal, that current weather conditions within Lewis County have created substantial fire danger throughout Lewis County; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to restrict outdoor burning on all unincorporated lands regulated by Lewis County, EXCEPT for recreational fires in designated campgrounds or private lands in approved burning receptacles; and

WHEREAS, consistent with the County’s legislative and police power authority, and for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and welfare, the BOCC declares that sufficient circumstances exist that warrant a ban on open burning within the County, until further action by the BOCC.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the BOCC hereby concurs with restricting outdoor burning on all unincorporated lands regulated by Lewis County. Effective at 12:01 a.m. July 15, 2022, burn permits are no longer valid as imposed by the Lewis County Fire Marshal, EXCEPT for recreational fires in designated campgrounds or private lands in approved burning receptacles and until such restriction is modified or rescinded by like resolution of the BOCC.

DONE IN OPEN SESSION this 19th day of July, 2022.
